Amma Two Wheeler Scheme:- Launched in February 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme was introduced to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, fondly remembered as “Amma.” Designed by the Tamil Nadu government, this initiative aims to uplift working women by making women-friendly two-wheelers more accessible through financial assistance. Objectives of Amma Two Wheeler Scheme  

The scheme aims to support employed women by helping them purchase gearless or auto-geared two-wheelers. It also extends assistance to differently-abled women for buying specially modified vehicles. Under the Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme, one lakh working women are expected to benefit each year.   • Beneficiaries include women employed in the private sector, such as accountants, salespersons, and store assistants.
  • Applicants may choose any two-wheeler with an engine capacity not exceeding 125cc.
  • In Chennai, the Commissioner will oversee the selection, while in other districts, the District Collector will be responsible.
  • Selection Committees, headed by designated Chairpersons, will handle the candidate selection process.
  • Applicants can either opt for a loan from a bank or a non-banking financial company. If this route is chosen, the verified application will be sent to the selected financial institution.
  • If the applicant decides to purchase the vehicle using personal funds, the subsidy will be credited directly to their bank account upon submission of proof of purchase.

    • In both the organised and unorganised sectors, women registered as workers.
    • Shops and establishments employ women.
    • Women who work for themselves, whether in petty trades or not.

  • The applicant should have appeared for the class 8th examination (Passed / Failed).
